The resting place of Istvánné Czóbel, Margit Mednyánszky

Cemeteries, tombstones, graves

The daughter of Ede Mednyánszky and Mária Anna Szirmai, she is the sister of the painter László. She was born in Beczkó, spent her childhood here and in the Nagyőr castle. In her memoirs, she always writes with great love about this time spent with her beloved brother. ; When their father died (1895), László (who could not handle material things and was not very interested in such earthly pleasures) left the Nagyőr estate to his sister. But he continued to keep in touch with Margit (as the family calls her: Miri), spending several weeks a year in the castle, where a separate studio was set up for her. ; Margit married the writer and philosopher István Czóbel. They maintained a real literary salon in their Nagyőr castle, and many artists, writers and painters visited them. She was good friends with Minka Czóbel, the famous poet and István's sister. He introduces her to László Mednyánszky, and they become good friends. ; Margit Mednyánszky and her husband had two daughters and a son. The eldest daughter, Mária Anna, died young, at the age of 39, of pneumonia, and their son István disappeared in 1916 on one of the fronts of World War I. Their daughter Margit (Baroness Margit Czóbel) lived in Nagyőröt until her death in the 1970s. The locals remember her and her parents with great affection to this day. She painted the portraits of her mother.
