Bishop Károly Csókás

Károly Csókás was born on December 28, 1895 in Barton, his father was Medárd Csókás, and his mother was Cecília Szőkol-Székely. He completed his primary schooling in Barton, then continued his studies at the Esztergom Gymnasium. He also completed his theological studies in Esztergom, of which he completed two years in Vienna. He was ordained a priest on July 14, 1918. He began his priestly vocation in Karancság, then was transferred to Budapest, where he served the faithful for fifteen years. From there he was transferred to Gúta as a parish priest, where after twenty years of service, on December 28, 1958, the Lord called him to Himself. He was buried in Gúta, but in 1972 the family exhumed him and brought him home. He was laid to rest in the Barton cemetery. His grave is marked by his cross behind the large cross of the cemetery.
