Csilizradvány Reformed Church
Building, structure
The church was originally built on the site of a Catholic church built in the Gothic style of the Árpád era, which became a Calvinist church around 1650. It burned down several times, most recently in 1644 and 1863, and in 1907, when the roof burned down. It was rebuilt at that time, and it was given neoclassical features. Its tower is 25 m high and contains two bells (the bells were cast in 1907 and 1924). The church has been restored several times, including in 1939 and 1989. The history of the church includes a legend that has survived through oral tradition: When Maria Theresa began to experience labor pains while fleeing, she fled from her pursuers to the Várhely Hill (300 meters from today's church), which provided a safe haven among the reeds. Here she gave birth to her son, Joseph II. (The people of Bős know that all this happened in the Bős castle.) ; The women of Radvány, Kulcsod and Patas surrounded him with great love and provided him with all kinds of good things. The royal queen, in order to thank her subjects for their efforts, allowed each village to make one wish, and she would grant it. So the women of Radvány asked that the two doors of the church be closed, so that the faithful of the two villages belonging to this area would also enter the church through the same entrance as the locals. They were allegedly ashamed that the people of Patas and Kulcsod, who were seated near their own entrance, were more numerous than the locals. This is how it happened that she had one door closed and the other walled up. The image of a door filled with building material was indeed visible from under the plaster that fell off after the flood of 1965. ; The entrance door was declared a monument. When the door was renovated, the following document about the door's maker was found: ; ; “With God's help, master carpenter Zsigmond Varga N. Megyer made this church door, which was completed on March 20, 1908. For 200, that is, two hundred crowns, at that time I was 43 years old, married, with a family, my wife's name is Érsek Alojzia, my sons are Gyula, Zsigmond, Ferencz. My daughters are Mariska, Jolán, Lujza, Ilonka. May God be with us.” ; ;
