Lőrinc Csiby was born on August 6, 1849 in Ditro, Csík County. He completed his secondary education in Csíksomlyó, Marosvásárhely, and Székelyudvarhely. In 1870, he entered the Selmec Academy as a forestry student, where he graduated in 1873. ; On September 14, 1874, he joined the Banat Bistrița Livestock Directorate as a forest manager, as a first-class forest trainee. In 1878, he was a forest estimator in Bratislava, in 1881, a sub-forest inspector in the estimation of the forests of the Croatian-Slavonic border region, and then he also became a forest manager there. In 1883, he was a forest manager in Lugos, and in 1887, in Orsova. In 1892, he became the chief forest manager of the Bánya Biszterce Forestry Directorate with the title of forest master until October 22, 1895. ; After the death of Zsigmond Szécsi, he became a teacher and head of the Department of Forest Use and Industrial Engineering of the Bánya Selmec Academy. He lectured on Forest Use, Industrial Engineering of Forests, Construction of Dams and Weirs, Agricultural Encyclopedia, Fisheries, Hunting and Weapons. During his work, he carried out a wide range of activities. ; He participated in the work of the forestry dictionary, founded the academic fruit tree school, designed an adding machine, a dowel-less nailer, a universal mounting instrument, and a universal mounting measuring instrument. His work in hydraulic engineering was also significant. He was the first to apply photogrammetry in forestry. ; In 1896 he was appointed a member of the forestry state examination committee. In 1897 he became a full academic teacher and forest advisor. He received a certificate of recognition for his work. ; He actively participated in the organization of the forestry exhibitions of the national millennium exhibition and the 1900 Paris World Exhibition. His literary activity is significant, mainly published in the Forestry Journals. He was an elected committee member of the municipality of the free royal cities of Selmecbánya-Bélabánya. ; He died on March 23, 1903 in Selmecbánya.
