Scout leaders' memorial plaque in Losonc
Statue, monument, memorial plaque
The bronze relief plaque was placed on the wall of the building of the former Royal Hungarian State High School in Losonc, or the Czechoslovak Reform High School, whose distinguished teacher, Lajos Scherer (1874 Óverbász - 1957, Szeged), was the commander of the school's scout troop, and later the editor and publisher of the student and scout newspaper A MI LAPUNK (1921-1932). The newspaper was not only a forum for the young Hungarian intellectuals in Czechoslovakia - the "new-faced Hungarians", but also published the works of the most distinguished Hungarian writers and poets of the time. ; A member of the Szilassy and Pilis Szilassy family, who took a public role in the public life of the city of Losonc and Nógrád county, but also in national affairs, the elder Dr. Aladár Szilassy, lawyer, was a student of the Losonc Reformed High School, whose legal successor, the Hungarian Royal State High School, also provided space for the Scout movement. His son was the junior Dr. Aladár Szilassy, a doctor, who in 1910, together with the Reformed pastor Béla Megyercsy, formed the first Hungarian Scout troop, the 1st troop of the Budapest Reformed Christian Youth Association, of which Szilassy became the commander. His grave in the Losonc Reformed Cemetery was first honored with a wreath by the newly formed Slovak Hungarian Scout Association in 1994, on the occasion of the unveiling of the memorial plaque. ; The memorial site is the destination of local and national commemorations, visits to Scout troops, and excursions to learn about the Hungarian homeland.
