Csábi Roman Catholic Church
Building, structure
The late Baroque church was built in honor of the Holy Name of the Virgin Mary in the second half of the 18th century, consecrated in 1768. It is painted pink and has a tower. It stands on the cemetery hill above the village. ; Above the entrance is a Latin plaque with a text related to the construction of the church. Next to the plaque, two stone carvings with plant patterns can be seen. ; The main altarpiece, made in 1883, shows the Madonna sitting on a throne. The ceiling fresco of the sanctuary, based on a painting by Gyula Benczúr, depicts the baptism of Vajk. On the triumphal arch of the sanctuary is a quote from the Hungarian folk song "Let us also be pure, heroes, saints!". On both sides of the triumphal arch are statues of King Saint Stephen and Saint Joseph holding the baby Jesus. Under the gallery on the left is the statue of Little Saint Therese, as well as the confessional niche with an Ecce Homo statue, and on the right is the statue of Saint Anthony and a Lourdes side altar. The walls of the nave are decorated with stations made in the 1910s and 1920s. Inside the church, the late 19th-century baptismal font, with statues of Saint John the Baptist and Jesus on top, is noteworthy. ; The three statues in the sacristy on the right depict the Pietà, Saint John the Evangelist and Saint Margaret of Alacoque. ; The church tower houses three bells. The small bell was made in 1934 in Nagyszombat, in the Fischer brothers' foundry, and its inscription reads: "Cor Jesu Sacratissime miserere nobis!" (Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us!) The middle and large bells were made in 1922 at the Herold Richard bell foundry in the northwestern Czech town of Chomutov. The middle bell bears the inscription "In honor of the Apostle Paul" and the figure of the apostle. The large bell bears the inscription "Our Blessed Mother, pray for us!" and above it is a relief scene depicting the Assumption of Mary. The gallery houses an Italian Ahlborn electric organ from 2008. ; The church's farewell is on September 12, the feast of the Holy Name of the Virgin Mary. In September 2018, the parish commemorated the 250th anniversary of the church's consecration with a multi-day celebration.
