István Bocskai's memorial plaque

On December 2, 2004, the Hajdú-Bihar County Government installed a bilingual bronze relief marble plaque in memory of István Bocskai's stay in Košice (Fő utca 67). The relief was unveiled during the Košice conference organized on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the Bocskai Uprising. ; István Bocskai (1557 Kolozsvár – 1606 Košice) was the prince of Transylvania, the organizer of the 1606 Peace of Vienna and the Peace of Žitvatorok. He moved his seat to Košice from 1604 until his death. He refused the crown offered by the Turks. He died on December 29, 1606 in Košice.

The Hungarian inscription on the plaque reads: FROM THIS HOUSE, THE FORMER SEAT OF THE CAPTAINSHIP OF UPPER HUNGARY / DIRECTED BY ISTVÁN BOCSKAI BETWEEN 1604-1606 / IN HONOR OF THE 400TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE COUNTRY'S STRUGGLE FOR FREEDOM AGAINST THE HABSBURGS / ESTABLISHED IN 2004 BY THE HAJDÓ-BIHAR COUNTY SELF-GOVERNMENT OF THE HUNGARIAN REPUBLIC
