Berchtold Castle
Building, structure
The castle building was built at the end of the 18th century as the seat of the Berchtold family, who settled in Fülek from Tyrol. Today it houses a grammar school. The castle later became the property of the Stephany and Herold families. After 1945, it became the building of the district office and also operated as an architectural school. Due to frequent reconstructions, the castle partially lost its original Baroque character. The original Baroque vault and carved wooden decoration can be seen on the ground floor. The park belonging to the castle was once surrounded by a fence, in which deer and roe deer lived freely. Swans swam in the water of the pond. The park covers an area of 8.2 hectares and contains 16 valuable, extremely special woody plants from foreign countries, and a small zoo awaits visitors.
