Bélik cross

Opposite the entrance to the Catholic church stands the pink marble cross, also known as the Bélik cross, which was erected in 1838 by Bishop József Bélik of Szepes in memory of his former followers from Zsigárd. ; Part of the wrought iron fence around the cross has survived. The cast cross stands on a rectangular base decorated with garlands. ; József Bélik Dezséri (Dezsér, December 1, 1757 – Szepeshely, March 5, 1847), bishop of the Szepes diocese. In 1774 he was admitted to the Esztergom County student priests, studied philosophy in Nagyszombat, theology in the Pazmaneum in Vienna, was ordained a priest in 1781, served as a chaplain in Csúz and Udvard, worked as a director of studies in the Bratislava seminary for three years, as a teacher of Christian ethics for three years, and as a seminary director for one year. Then, after the seminary was dissolved, he became a parish priest in Zsigárd, where he spent 9 years, was appointed a canon in Esztergom in 1809, director of the Pest seminary in 1810, became a deputy archbishop in 1820, was elected bishop in 1821, and was appointed bishop of the Spiš diocese in 1823. ; ; Works: ; - Carolus Ambrosius archiepiscopus Strigoniensis... oratione funebri laudatus...
