The grave of David Szabó Baróti

Cemeteries, tombstones, grave sites

The Hungarian poet and language reformer, Jesuit, later secular priest and teacher, worked with Ferenc Kazinczy and János Batsányi to publish the Magyar Museum, the first Hungarian-language literary journal. As a reward for his literary endeavors, he received a pension of 600 forints from King Francis and moved to Virt to live with his former student, Benedekez Pyber Györkényi (his grave can be found in our database), the son of the chief notary of Komárom County, where he spent the last two decades of his life.
