József Baranyay (Kamocsa, September 6, 1876 – Komárom, January 20, 1952[1]) was a journalist, librarian, and local historian. ; ; He graduated from high school in Komárom and Pápa, and then studied law in Budapest. He was a librarian from 1906 to 1945. He was the president of the Jókai Book Press since its establishment in 1912. He was interned on May 1, 1919 and was released only after 9 months. He spent his last years with his relatives on the farm. He rests in Komárom. ; Between 1904 and 1912, he edited the Dunaszerdahely Csallóközi Lapok, and between 1914 and 1919, the Komárom Újság and the Komárom Kalendárium. In 1920, he founded the Vagyunk magazine, then the Barázda agrarian policy and minority protection newspaper (1921–1926, 1936–1939) and the Csallóközi Calendar (1921-1938), and between 1920 and 1944 he was also one of the editors of the Komáromi Lapok. ; He published historical, ethnographic, and cultural history articles related to Komárom and its wider region, the Csallóköz. He was a member of the Jókai Public Culture and Museum Association in Komárom. ; His memorial plaque was unveiled on August 19, 2006.
