In 1994, the anniversary year of the birth and death of Bálint Balassi, poet and soldier who fought against the Turks, several commemorative ceremonies were held at the initiative of the Palóc Society. On October 16, on the 440th anniversary of Balassi's birth, in the courtyard of the Baroque castle built next to the Kékkő castle ruins, the ancient nest of the family, which can be visited as a museum, Aladár Urbán, president of the Palóc Society, and Vladimír Siváček, director of the castle museum, unveiled the bronze relief of sculptor Szilveszter Oláh, which was made based on the only known portrait of Balassi, complete with a falcon and border castle knights in the background. Next to the relief, to the left and right, the inscription can be read on a stone tablet in Hungarian and Slovak. The unveiling was followed by a festive program and wreath-laying, as well as the opening of a Balassi memorial room. ; Related events, celebrations: Palóc Society events, occasional wreath-laying ceremonies.
