Alajos Baker moved to Selmecbánya from Vienna and opened a studio in the city around 1870. In addition to taking portrait photographs, he also recorded the landscape and mining monuments, as well as documenting the archaeological excavations and new constructions of the city. Thanks to his activities, we can know, for example, the original form of the Szélaknai (Hegybányai, Piargi) Gate, with the Church of Our Lady of the Snows, the New Castle, the Mining Academy and the Calvary in the background. ; ; Béla Baker was born in Selmecbánya on May 30, 1883. After finishing elementary school, he studied at the Selmecbánya Evangelical Lyceum, where he graduated in 1902. He received his university degree in Budapest in 1913. In 1921 he returned to Bánya Selmec, where he began working as a city archivist on October 28, 1922. He processed, acquired and saved many valuable documents. The collection he created served as the basis for the newly established City Museum. In 1925 he was permanently appointed director of the Bánya Biszterce City Museum, a position he held until his death. ; In 1925, the city council entrusted him with processing the archive materials of the Bánya Selmec police station. From 1927, Béla Baker also edited the city chronicle. He died on March 1, 1941 in Bánya Selmec.
