Ten years, eight conferences, eight volumes. This is the current balance of our work. I do not claim that we have created the most perfect possible in everything, but we have done what we could. The Vámbéry Civic Association and its Scientific College, although they were established on a private initiative, have long been more than the private affairs of their founders and the few people who joined them. A public matter, one of the unfortunately rare institutions of Hungarian-language orientalist scholarship. Our task, therefore, is to hold on to this bastion as long as possible.
