The Catholic Church in Ipolyvisk
Building, structure
We can find information about the Vis church in several sources. For example, church historian János Fábián wrote about it as follows: "The Vis church was built by pious believers, when, there is no trace of it anywhere. The 1779 church visitation only mentions its renewal, which took place in 1700, as the inscription on the church at that time proves. /.../ However, this church was already in ruins at the time of the aforementioned church visitation, and undoubtedly it collapsed not long after, and then the current church was built." According to the Hungarian Catholic Lexicon, the church was dedicated to Saint Margaret of Antioch before 1397. The sacred monument was renovated in 1711 and 1798, and a tower was built for it in 1811. A black marble tablet can be seen on the northern wall of the church, on which the data of the village's famous priestly descendants can be read. This is exactly the text on the plaque: "We remember with love the distinguished natives of our village: Mór König, doctor of theology and abbot canons. Born in 1822/ Dr. Ipoly Kálmán Fehér, Abbot of the Holy Benedictine Order of Pannonhalma. Born in 1842/ Lajos Rajner, doctor of theology, ordained bishop. Born in 1842/ We preserve their memory with respect/ Population of Ipolyvisk 1994
