The Holocaust Memorial in Érsekújvár
Statue, monument, memorial plaque
The monument commemorates the deported Jewish population. On July 13, 1944, the Jews of Újvár were deported to a concentration camp. Of the 4,800 Jews, 4,386 died in Auschwitz. The monument stands in the Klein Ernő Park next to the synagogue. “…This is nothing more than the remnants saved from the fire” – the inscription on the monument reads in four languages. The work of sculptor Tibor Szilágyi was inaugurated in 2008.
