On August 1, 1914, men eligible for military service up to the age of 32 enlisted (68 soldiers from Nagyölved). The first Nagyölved casualty of the war was Ferenc Mácsady. The authorities sent 26-30 Russian prisoners of war to help the women and children who remained at home and to cultivate the lands. 40 Roman Catholic and 18 Calvinist soldiers fell in World War I, whose remains lie on different fronts, far away.
