The building of the former Komárno First Savings Bank
Building, structure
Built in 1844, based on the plans of the Budapest architect Béla Ney, the building of the former Komárno First Savings Bank. Previously, the arcaded, one-story building of the Golden Cross House stood on its site. On November 6, 1848, Lajos Kossuth, an honorary citizen of Komárno, stayed here. It had several owners. The eclectic building once housed the Komárno First Savings Bank, and then, after nationalization, the offices of the District Health Institute (the so-called polyclinic). In 2003, it was transferred to the ownership of the Nyitra County Government, which neglected it for years and, since it was empty, its condition continued to deteriorate. Since 2011, it has been the property of the city of Komárno. In September 2020, the Komárno representatives approved the preparation of comprehensive project documentation for its renovation. These are the first tangible steps towards renovating the building.
