The most widespread association of Catholic women was the Rosary Society, whose purpose was to honor the Virgin Mary and pray the Rosary regularly and fervently. The association, which became a movement, was led by the Dominicans. Its popularity is shown by the fact that simple peasant women would pray for the rosary in their apron pockets, even while working. The local associations of the society were linked to parishes.
