Monument to the 1848–49 War of Independence

Statue, monument, memorial plaque

The almost five-meter-high 1848/49 monument, located in Vámbéry Square, a central location in the town, pays tribute to the events of the former civil revolution and war of independence – the city’s 1848/49 commemorations are held here every year. The work of sculptor György Lipcsey – on which a bird of prey with closed wings, shaped like a truncated pyramid, made of black granite, stands guard on a column above a pedestal surrounded by the flames of the war of independence – was inaugurated on March 15, 1995. ; On both sides of the column of glory, we read the date 1848–1849, while in the middle we see a laurel wreath.
