Artz cross

Cemeteries, tombstones, graves

The cross in front of the Franciscan church originally stood in the nearby St. Andrew's Cemetery. The inscription on the pedestal, dated 1808 (1888?), refers to the move when the cross was moved from the grave (inside the cemetery) to the wall of the cemetery chapel. ; The German inscription probably also dates from 1808. Here the name of the deceased is listed as "Joh. Jos. Az". The name can be found in the 1793 death register of the St. Martin parish in Bratislava. Josephus Artz - faber serarius (master locksmith). Although there is no information, the maker of the cross was probably Joseph Artz himself. ; The cross was moved to its current location in the 20th century.
