A bronze and limestone statue of József Antall, the late Prime Minister of Hungary, was inaugurated on February 16, 2014. ; On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the late Prime Minister's death, the Antall József Foundation launched the initiative to have a statue of the former head of government in every major cross-border area. The Transylvanian statue of József Antall was inaugurated on December 22, 2013 on the Székelyhíd Bridge in Romania, and the Kolozsnémai statue is the first Antall statue in the Uplands. ; The decision to erect the first statue of József Antall in the Uplands was made by the Komárno Regional Committee of the Csemads and the Antall József Foundation at the beginning of the year. The agreement was signed by Attila Petheő, the chairman of the Komárno Committee of the Csemads, and Zsolt Makay, the curator of the Antall József Foundation. The statue and the pedestal were made by the Hungarian foundation, the Csemadok undertook the responsibility of securing the area for the statue and organizing the inauguration ceremony. ; József Antall is an example for all of us, his statue also proclaims unity here in the Highlands – said Gyula Bárdos, Slovakia’s first Hungarian presidential candidate, at the ecumenical service held after the unveiling of the statue. Bárdos reminded us: József Antall was the first prime minister to say after Trianon that he takes responsibility for 15 million Hungarians in his soul. “This sentence cannot be misinterpreted, we can live anywhere in the world as Hungarians, our mother tongue and culture unite us. We, the people of the Highlands, are also part of the Hungarian nation and we feel the Antall heritage as our own,” he emphasized. He emphasized: only credible politicians can be good servants of the community, József Antall was such a statesman. "May his example give us the strength to put the interests of the community before individual and party interests."
