Ahai Saint Imre Church
Building, structure
The population of the village of Aha has always been predominantly Catholic, although for centuries they could only go to Verebély for church services. The St. Imre Church here was built in 1749 in the Baroque style. It is a smaller, single-nave building, with an arched sanctuary, a small sacristy attached to it, and a tower built into the gabled main facade. The facades of the church are divided by wall frames, and the tower, separated by a crown cornice, has a pyramidal cap. In 1958, the building was expanded with a simple transept. The previous church – together with its nave and tower – thus effectively became a side aisle of the expanded building. The tower and its main facade have recently been restored, and on October 22, 1998, the three copper crosses were also returned to the tower. Some pieces of the original church furnishings remain in the building, the rest of the furnishings are modern.
