Cemeteries, tombstones, graves

The cemetery, established in 1946, contains the remains of more than five thousand soldiers – most of them in mass graves. Most of them died in the Battle of Kőhídgyarmat in January and February 1945, but soldiers who fell in the battles along the Alsó-Garam River in the winter of 1944 and spring of 1945 were also buried here. ; 5,248 soldiers who died in World War II are buried in the cemetery. It was established in 1947 and covers an area of 0.36 hectares. It acquired its current appearance during the reconstruction completed in 1994. Eight large mass graves, 168 individual graves with names were rebuilt, and the work of academic sculptor Emil Venkov, the monumental monument of the Mourning Mother, as well as some other reliefs in the further part of the cemetery, were replaced. The cemetery is a cultural monument of the Slovak Republic, managed by the city of Párkány.
