Hontfüzes Colonial Monument to the Heroes of the World Wars
Statue, monument, memorial plaque
In the middle of the village stands a monument to the soldiers of the village who fell in World War I and the victims of World War II.
The monument to the heroes of World War I, on which 42 names are engraved, was inaugurated on June 5, 1940, in a ceremonial setting, together with the national flag. The inauguration speech was given by the chief of Bars, Gyula Koczor, and Róbert Berényi spoke on behalf of the Ereklyés National Flag Great Committee. On the right side of the monument, the text of the Hungarian Creed, and on the left side, the inscription "May these heroic sons rest in peace after the battles." The ends of the wing of the turul placed on top of the monument were mutilated with a hammer by Slovak chauvinists in the second half of the 1940s, and were stolen by unknown persons at the end of the twentieth century, so the village government had a new turul made, which was inaugurated in June 2002, together with the memorial plaques for the victims of World War II.
