Roman Catholic Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

Building, structure

It is located in the immediate vicinity of the Reformed Church. The small Catholic community had no church in the village since the 17th century, so its members were forced to go to neighboring villages for worship. It was only in the 19th century that Ghyczy Rafael built a smaller church in the classicist style. A small corridor connected it to the castle, where the Catholic priest also lived. The church was rebuilt several times, but the most recent reconstruction radically changed its exterior and interior. The straight-sided sanctuary with the original segmental arch vault, the entrance stone portal, the corner wall strips dividing the main facade, the connecting corridor, and the original church interior were removed. Between 1989 and 1993, an almost new church with a wooden ceiling was built. Only the original tower with a pointed tent roof has survived, as well as the tombs of the Ghyczys and the organ from the first half of the 19th century in the corner of the gallery. The arch of the former gate leading to the castle, which dates back to the second half of the 18th century, is built into the main pediment of the church, as well as the coat of arms of Tádé Amade and his wife, Angéla Nyáry. The tower has two bells, which were cast by the Dosztál company from Komárom in 1926. The interior of the church is modern, as the old altar was also replaced. The first mass was celebrated in it in the autumn of 1994.
