József Kármán, (1769 Losonc -1795 Losonc) was a prominent prose writer of the Enlightenment (Fanni's Traditions, The Beautification of the Nation), newspaper publisher (URÁNIA), theater organizer. His works and memory were forgotten after his early death, and were only rediscovered during the Reformation era. His hometown erected a monument to his eldest son 100 years after his death. The Kármán Memorials were inaugurated in 1896 as part of the millennium celebrations. Originally, the 4 m high memorial column, made of "home-made, now tried-and-tested stone material", decorated with carvings, and inscribed, was inaugurated in the grove opposite the Main Gymnasium. The nearby birthplace was also marked with a memorial plaque. The marble obelisk marking Kármán's grave was only replaced in the Reformed cemetery a year later. In 1945, the monument and plaque were removed by the authorities. The memorial column - which was replaced by a Soviet military monument - was closed to the public among the bushes in the garden of the ref. church until March 24, 1969, when, at the initiative of the Csemads, it was erected in a clearly visible place, in place of the 1848/49 national defense monument destroyed in 1945. The monument, supplemented with a Slovak inscription, was solemnly reopened as part of a series of events on the 200th anniversary of the birth of József Kármán. ; Between 1896 and 1944, it was the place of memorial ceremonies and wreath-laying events organized by the Losonc high school and the city. ; Since 1969, it has been the place of wreath-laying events organized within the framework of the Kármán Days. ; Since 1993, it has been the permanent place of the joint celebration of Kármán's birthday and March 15, and the related wreath-laying events. ; The birthplace was also marked with a granite memorial plaque in May 1896. In 1926, the old house was demolished, but the memorial plaque was replaced on the wall of the new house. In 1945, the memorial plaque was also removed. On March 24, 1969, a new marble plaque with a Hungarian-Slovak inscription was inaugurated simultaneously with the memorial column; The gravesite was marked on June 3, 1897, on the anniversary of Kármán's death, with a "light Tyrolean marble" tombstone made by the Gerenday company in Budapest. On October 31, 1990, the Losonc ref. On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the founding of the church, the congregation placed on the tombstone an inscribed steel plate, donated by the Nógrád County Archives, commemorating the memory of the writer's grandfather (rector of the ref. high school), his father (pastor, bishop) and his uncle (rector of the ref. high school). The grave is visited by numerous tourist groups visiting Losonc.
