The Kondé–Biró tombstone
Cemeteries, tombstones, graves
In the public cemetery on Kisudvarnoki Street in Dunaszerdahely, not far from the priest's graves, we find the oldest grave in the public cemetery in Dunaszerdahely, and one of the most important in the history of our city, in a neglected and undignified condition. ; The inscription on the grave marker made of red marble, decorated with a skull on the cross and shin bones below, is quite worn, but still legible. ; We know from the chronicle, but also from other stories, what a large and ornate crypt the Kondé family had in the former Újfalu cemetery (in the area under the current hotel and district office) (until the end of the 1780s, several of them were also buried in the crypt of the St. George Church). ; This remaining grave marker is one of their last mementos in our city, but it also has serious local historical significance, as the daughter of the first owner of the Yellow Castle, István Padányi Biró, Margit Padányi Biró, and her husband, István Kondé, are buried there.
