Following the victory at Nagysalló, the VII Corps of the Hungarian Army, led by General Ernő Poeltenberg, fought its way through the Austrian siege ring on April 20, 1849, freeing the Komárom fortress. The Köbölkút municipality had it erected to commemorate the 150th anniversary.
