The Small Colony Scout Monument

Statue, monument, memorial plaque

In 1939, 1940 and 1941, members of the 102nd Ganz Scout Troop from Budapest camped on the outskirts of the village. A monument was erected in 1943 to commemorate their camping. The three-mound monument, built of natural stone, was demolished in the 1960s. The Csemadok and the local leader of the tradition-preserving group, Julianna Mészáros, had wanted to restore the monument since the mid-1990s. They received help from the Esztergom-Belváros Parish, who successfully applied for the National Civil Fund Program. The amount awarded was supplemented by the entrepreneur László Kormos from Párkány. The renovated 3-meter-high monument was inaugurated on July 5, 2008, within the framework of the III. Szikince-Ghymes Festival. József Halzl, president of the Rákóczi Association, gave a ceremonial speech.
