Our natural heritage
The European ostrich fern or simply ostrich fern (Matteuccia struthiopteris) is a plant species belonging to the class of true ferns. It is a perennial plant 40–150 cm tall. Its powerful rootstock is vertical in the soil, from which the assimilatory leaves, which can reach a height of up to 1.5 m, grow in a funnel-shaped arrangement. They are light green, doubly compound, oblong-lanceolate, and the edges of the leaf blades are intact.
