The memorial bell of the former castle chapel in Fülek

Statue, monument, memorial plaque

The opening event of the XX. Fülek Castle Games was the handover of the memorial bell of the former castle chapel on June 15, 2019, created by Róbert Slíž. ; The castle chapel once housed a bronze bell. During the seventeenth century, when the Ottoman army occupied it, they took the bell with them. They wanted to cast a cannon from it. ; Balázs Orbán writes about the Catholic church in his work A Description of the Székely Land: “Where the sanctuary of the church coincides with the northern side of the monastery, the octagonal tower rises from the side of the long sanctuary, in which we searched in vain for the old bell called the faithful Fülek, which the Turks set off on ox carts when they took the castle of Fülek, was intended to be cast for cannon, but because of the bad roads it got stuck, Miklós Toldalagi, Zsigmond Bálintith and other Catholic gentlemen bought it for 500 forints and presented it to the monastery of Mikházi, where it retained the name of Fülek, but today, unfortunately, it is nowhere to be found, because it was recast.” ; The bell served Catholic believers until the nineteenth century, when it disappeared. There is no further information about its existence. ; All we know about the fate of the chapel is that it was destroyed during the siege of 1682, along with a significant part of the Fülek Castle.
