Mary holding the baby Jesus

Sacral small monument

The oldest public statue in Dunaszerdahely was erected in 1713 – in accordance with their mother’s last will – by the three Kondé brothers from Pókateleki: Ádám, György and Ferenc. The three Kondé brothers left a sum of money (as early as 1713) for the necessary restoration of the statue of the Virgin Mary holding the baby Jesus in her arms, which originally stood on a pedestal and column opposite the main road leading to Komárom. Later, the Kondé family, then the parish and the city took care of the sacred monument, which survived the centuries unharmed for a long time, until someone(s) toppled the statue in the triangle in front of the mill, which had been built around by the expansion of the city by then, in the late 1990s. ; The statue of Mary herself with the baby Jesus has disappeared, and the broken column and pedestal await a better fate in the courtyard of the Yellow Castle.
