The renovation of the village center began in May 2015, but it was a long and bumpy road from the public procurement announcement to the start of the works – said János Bób, the mayor of Szímő. “In recent months, the village center has been completely renovated with nearly 1 million euros. We have renovated roads and sidewalks, created a bicycle path for safer traffic, new information boards help with orientation, and we have also created rest zones,” informed the mayor of the village. In addition, the renovation of the bus stops in the center was also part of the project, as well as the modernization of the public lighting. ; The development worth nearly 1 million euros was implemented by the village with European Union and state support. The Minister of Agriculture Ľubomír Jahnátek was also present at the ceremonial handover of the village center, who expressed his appreciation for the significant development that Szímő has undergone in recent years. ; The renovation of the village center also included the creation of a soda siphon-shaped fountain. With this, the people of Szimő would like to pay tribute to the famous native of the village, István Jedlik Ányos, a monk and inventor. The inventor of soda water production is considered by all Hungarians to be among the greats, and his memory is also worthily preserved in his native village. “We are trying to make our village more livable and homely and to cherish Jedlik’s legacy. I am confident that the renovated center will increase the residents’ sense of comfort,” said Mayor János Bób.
