The Painful Picture

This public statue was erected in the place of the former Holy Trinity statue at the beginning of the twentieth century, in 1913, in the south next to the highway, outside the village. Later, a street was built in the area, so the statue was placed on the plot of a family house. Therefore, in 2011, the municipality decided to remove it from there and place it in the newly created part of the cemetery. Today, it can be seen here in a dignified environment. ; ; The popular name of the statue is Painful Picture, actually a cross carved from stone. Iconographically, it depicts a Pieta, the state after being taken down from the cross. On the pedestal, between two semi-columns, in a semi-circular field, the following text can be read: ; ; Szeretetnek székt borsa ; Oh Szővých szélkéd szélkódása ; Add szélkémé székem. ; 1913 ; ; At the base of the cross, Mary holds the body of Christ. A wrinkled cloth is draped over the baroque upper part of the cross. ; The statue was erected at the same time as the White image at the upper end of the village, and it also came from the workshop of the stonemason Hild L. in Sopron, but the name of its erector is not indicated on the statue. However, it is likely that it was also erected by Zsófia Füle Jakabné Sill. The statue is decorated with flowers on Mary's feasts and All Saints' Day.
