The large cross of the Deák cemetery

Parish priest György Jarotta noted: “the red marble cross erected in the cemetery belonged to the foundation of Calvary, which must be repaired from its money if it breaks down, as András Liszi gives. It is clearly stated in the 5th issue of his Testament, written on January 20, 1807”. The following can be read on the front of the stone cross: “Christo Patienti purae Sevitrici Maerenti Poruenront Andreas Liszi Eva Tothia pari Uto Parigue prietate anno 1798.” Every year on All Souls’ Day, people from Deákia who died far from their native village are remembered at the stone marker, and a candle is lit “out of the zeal of the faithful”.
