World War I memorial in Osgyán
Statue, monument, memorial plaque
Although the proportion of Hungarians in the settlement is only 20% (10% did not declare their nationality during the census), the monument to the Hungarian patriots, originally decorated with a turul bird, preserves the memory of the heroes in a well-kept environment in the village. The interesting thing about the memorial is the relief of the former national flag behind the column, on which the triple and double cross of the Hungarian coat of arms, as well as the still legible original text (WE RETURNED HOME 1938 Nov. 2.), give emphasis to the monument. It is true that now (September 2020) it is treated with white paint, but in the not-so-distant past, busy Slovak hands copied a Slovak coat of arms from the artificial stone relief by coloring it with tasteless thoroughness in blue, white and red colors on the original Hungarian coat of arms.
